Church Ruling Elder Training

Church Ruling Elder Training

This event will be hosted at Camp Fellowship on Saturday, December 16, 2023.

Registration Fees:

  • Registration is currently closed. Please email info@campfellowship if you need to register.

  • $25 per person - Saturday Day of Training with lunch

About the Training

The event will focus on the four areas on which our Book of Order requires each new officer to be examined – 1) Personal Faith, 2) Reformed Doctrines and Beliefs, 3) Presbyterian Polity, and 4) duties of the Office of Elder or Deacon. Having a copy of the PC(USA) Book of Order will be beneficial for attendees.

We will be utilizing the officer training manual that Tom Malone has prepared, entitled Being the Best You Can Be: a Notebook for Preparing Church Officers for Service. Each attending person will receive a copy of this notebook which contains the material we will be using that Saturday but also other material that will help you do some additional personal preparation. Jim Rowell, Interim Stated Clerk of Trinity Presbytery, will lead the training.

What resources do I need?

A current edition of the Book of Order [Book of Order 2023-2025] Every other year, the General Assembly prints a new edition of the Book of Order. It is available for purchase and incorporates recent amendments to the Book of Order.

There are three ways you may obtain a Book of Order 2023-2025:

 You may purchase a copy at the presbytery office.

 You may order a copy at this link: http://store.pcusa.org/OGA1101 The Book of Order 2023-2025 is available both in book format and CD format.

 You may download a free copy (in pdf) at this link: http://oga.pcusa.org/section/departments/communication-development-and-technology/constitution

Companion to the Constitution: Polity for the Local Church This is an excellent resource book. It is revised annually to incorporate changes to the Book of Order, but it is not necessary to order a new one every year. It is excellent, easy to read, and a helpful reference to the Book of Order as it relates specifically to the ministry of the local church. This book is a practical application of the Book of Order to real-time experiences in the church. Available at http://store.pcusa.org. ISBN 0-664-50146-X

Officers who have already been ordained but who would like additional training are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Please RSVP by clicking “REGISTER NOW” above. After registration, you will be navigated to a payment page. If payment is not received at the time of registration, an invoice will be emailed to you.

Fall 2023 Confirmation Retreat
Nov

to Nov 11

Fall 2023 Confirmation Retreat

  • Fellowship Camp & Conference (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Confirmands and their youth leaders are invited to attend a weekend retreat at Camp Fellowship to dig deeper into their confirmation journey. $100 per person provides one night, several meals shared, and thoughtful programming for all who attend.

“Confirmation in the Spirit, Bread for the Journey” guides confirmands:

1. To develop a deeper understanding of themselves as God’s beloved children, created in the image of God and commissioned to increase good in the world;

2. To recognize the importance of Confirmation as a “personal Pentecost,” the Spirit’s promise to strengthen them for living as God’s beloved; and

3. To live more consciously and actively in the assurance of the support and nurture of the community of faith through their mentors/sponsors.

The retreat module employs bread baking as a metaphor for Confirmation. Bread baking requires the right ingredients—flour, water, salt, and yeast—to create dough. The Holy Spirit is like yeast, filling us with the energizing breath of God. Baking is a hands-on experience of mixing, pounding, and stretching the dough. The laying on of hands is the community’s pledge to support and stretch us in our faith. Baking requires time, patience, high heat, and the wise experience of those who have baked before. The Holy Spirit and the church are our constant companions, guides, and guards. This retreat affirms the role of the Spirit and the community of faith in the growth and nurture of young people as they navigate the world.

What’s a red letter day?
A Red Letter Day is a day of significance or opportunity.

It’s a day to celebrate friendships and fellowship as we embrace healing and wholeness in community. It’s a day to engage in shared experiences in the out-of-doors (fishing, boating, and strolling through nature)! It’s a day to experience creative expressions - including music, art, and crafting - that help us to share in our common journey. It’s a day to give back through service, caring and sharing!

Red Letter Days are a Program of the Fellowship Camp and Conference Center offered to our local community in cooperation with Self Regional Health Care Cancer Center, the Cancer Support Community at Prisma Health - Greenville Memorial and Friends, YMCA of the Lakelands, Neighbors, Friends, and other local organizations supporting Fellowship Camp and Conference Center.
